A 3-Day Rome Itinerary

Rome, Italy | Europe

When in Rome… you’re visiting one of the most ancient and beautiful cities in the world, so you truly don’t want to miss a thing. From iconic landmarks to charming streets, this 3-day Rome itinerary will help you experience the city just like Lizzie McGuire did — and yes, that’s a promise.

Day 1: Ancient Rome, the Colosseum & Roman Forum

Start your Rome adventure by stepping straight into history. Begin your day early with a combination ticket for the Colosseum and the Roman Forum — this is the most efficient way to see both.

Seeing the Colosseum from the inside is an absolute must. Standing where gladiators once fought is an unforgettable experience and really brings Roman history to life.

After exploring the Colosseum, enjoy a relaxed lunch nearby before heading to the Roman Forum in the afternoon. This area is surprisingly beautiful and incredibly interesting. The ruins are remnants of ancient Rome, and walking through them truly feels like stepping into the past. The structures are grand, detailed, and far more impressive than you might expect.

Take your time here,  it’s a place that deserves to be explored slowly.

Day 2: Vatican City & Pasta-Making Fun

Start your day by climbing St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. The climb is absolutely worth it. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views over Rome. After coming back down, take time to explore the basilica itself. The interior is breathtaking, filled with art, marble, and history.

For lunch, join a pasta-making class and cook your own meal. This was honestly one of the funniest and best experiences of the trip. With unlimited wine, great music, amazing hosts, and delicious food, it’s a must-do while in Rome.

We did our pasta class close to the Vatican.

After this amazing lunch, head to the Vatican Museums in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day admiring world-famous artworks, stunning galleries, and of course, the Sistine Chapel.

Day 3: Rome’s Iconic Highlights & Charming Streets

Slow things down on your final day by exploring Rome’s most iconic spots at an easy pace. Start by wandering through the small, dreamy Italian streets on your way to the Trevi Fountain.

This is one of those places where you can easily sit for hours, simply watching the water flow and soaking in the atmosphere. Don’t forget to throw a coin over your shoulder, legend says it guarantees you’ll return to Rome one day.

To cool off, grab an ice cream or milkshake at Venchi, located just around the corner from the fountain.

From there, head to the Pantheon, one of the best-preserved ancient buildings in the world, before continuing towards the Spanish Steps for an iconic photo moment.
Along the way, explore the many cute boutiques, souvenir shops, and cafés scattered throughout the streets, some of the best finds are completely unplanned.
