Must Do Activities in Sydney: 6 Experiences You Can’t Miss

Sydney is one of those cities that truly has it all: iconic landmarks, beautiful beaches, incredible wildlife, and plenty of adventure. Whether you’re visiting for a few days or spending several weeks in Australia, there are some experiences you simply can’t miss. From feeding kangaroos to catching waves at Bondi Beach, these are my favorite must do activities in Sydney that made my trip unforgettable.

Go to Sybio wildlife park to feed kangarooos

You can’t visit Australia without getting up close to a kangaroo! Sure, feeding kangaroos might sound a little touristy, but honestly, it’s popular for a reason — it’s such a fun experience.

We took the train to Symbio Wildlife Park and ended up having one of the best days of our trip. Getting so close to the kangaroos felt surreal, especially when they casually hopped around us looking for food. And yes, we even managed to take a selfie with one. Definitely a core memory! If you love wildlife, adding Symbio Wildlife Park to your Sydney itinerary is well worth it.

Take a tour inside the Sydney Opera house

Seeing the Sydney Opera House from the outside is impressive enough, but stepping inside gives you a completely different perspective.
You can book a guided tour that takes you behind the scenes and into some of the building’s famous performance spaces. Along the way, you’ll learn more about the Opera House’s fascinating history, architecture, and design.
The concert halls, architecture, harbor views, and atmosphere make this one of the most memorable Sydney activities to add to your itinerary.
Plus, how cool is it to say you’ve actually been inside one of the world’s most recognizable buildings?

Take a Surf Lesson at Bondi Beach

If there’s one quintessential Australian experience to try in Sydney, it’s surfing.
I’ll be honest: surfing is way harder than it looks. But that’s also what makes it so much fun! Bondi Beach is a great place to give surfing a try, especially if you’re a beginner. There are several surf schools where you can book a lesson and learn the basics before heading into the waves.
Even if you spend most of your lesson falling off your board rather than standing up, you’ll still have an amazing time.
And honestly, saying you learned to surf at Bondi Beach is a pretty good travel story.

Walk the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk

Sydney is famous for its spectacular coastline, and the Bondi to Coogee walk is one of my favorite ways to experience it.
The coastal trail takes you along dramatic cliffs and past beautiful beaches, rock pools, parks, and ocean viewpoints. The best part is that you don’t have to rush.
Take your time, stop for a swim, grab a coffee, take plenty of photos, and simply enjoy the views. The walk combines everything I love about Sydney: beaches, nature, sunshine, and incredible scenery. It’s one of those experiences that feels both relaxing and adventurous at the same time.
Tip: Bring comfortable shoes, sunscreen, water, and your swimsuit. You’ll probably want to stop along the way!

See Sydney from Sydney Tower Eye

For one of the best panoramic views of the city, head up to Sydney Tower Eye.
From the observation deck, you can see across Sydney’s skyline, the harbor, and much of the surrounding area. It’s especially beautiful around sunset, when the city starts to glow and the lights slowly come on. If you love viewpoints and city photography, this is definitely one of the must do activities in Sydney to add to your list. It’s also a great way to get a different perspective of Sydney after spending your days exploring the streets and beaches.

Go stargazing at the Sydney Observatory

Looking for something a little different? Spend an evening at Sydney Observatory.
Away from the daytime crowds, you can join guided experiences and learn more about the stars, planets, and night sky. It’s a fun option if you want to take a break from sightseeing while still doing something unique. I especially love this idea for an evening when you don’t want to go straight back to your accommodation after dinner. It’s peaceful, interesting, and gives you a completely different way to experience the city.
